Purpose and Needs
Roadway Typical Sections
The intent of this project is to widen I-10 from four to six lanes from west of U.S. 90 to west of Capital Circle NW in Gadsden and Leon Counties. A typical section is a visual representation of what the new roadway would look like in comparison with the existing roadway. This image shows the existing and proposed roadway typical section that is being evaluated for this project.
Bridge Typical Sections
The bridges over U.S. 90, Midway Branch, and the Ochlockonee River are proposed to be replaced as a part of the widening project.

As a part of the PD&E process, a “best fit” Build Alternative has been developed and evaluated for potential environmental impacts, as well as its satisfaction of the project’s Purpose and Need. This Evaluation Matrix summarizes the potential benefits and impacts to widening I-10 from west of S.R. 10 (U.S. 90) to west of S.R. 263 (Capital Circle NW) in Gadsden and Leon Counties. As the proposed option continues to be refined, impacts to social, environmental, cultural, and physical resources will be avoided and minimized to the extent practicable.
This virtual project update is just one of several being conducted for other widening and interchange projects on I-10 in this geographic area. Please visit www.nwflroads.com/futureprojects for more information on the other project shown on the Projects Map.
