Welcome to the virtual project update for the following two Interstate 10 (I-10) Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Studies:
Project Location Map
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting two Project Development and Environment (PD&E) studies to assess present features, consider community needs and impacts, and develop possible improvements for the widening of approximately 35 miles of I-10 within portions of Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. The two I-10 PD&E Studies are shown on the map in orange and purple. The two project segments include:
- I-10 from west of Avalon Boulevard to west of Log Lake Road in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties
- I-10 from west of Log Lake Road to east of State Road (S.R.) 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) in Okaloosa County
Other Nearby Projects
This virtual project update is just one of several being conducted for other widening and interchange projects on I-10 and major north-south roads in this geographic area. Please visit nwflroads.com/futureprojects for more information on all the projects shown on the Projects Map.

Project Schedule
Over the next several months, FDOT will continue to collect and study data to help compare the project options. A key part of the PD&E process is sharing and receiving information from the public. The next step is to include your input from this virtual project update into the decision-making process. The final Build Alternative will be presented at a Public Hearing in the fall of 2020.

Roadway Typical Sections
The intent of these projects is to widen I-10 from four to six lanes from west of Avalon Boulevard to east of S.R. 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. A typical section is a visual representation of what the new roadway would look like in comparison with the existing roadway. These images show the existing and proposed roadway typical sections that are being evaluated for various segments of the project.
Bridge Typical Sections
All I-10 overpass bridges are proposed to be replaced as part of the widening projects. Additionally, the bridges over Yellow River are proposed to be replaced. The I-10 bridges over Blackwater River were built with a planned future expansion in mind during a previous replacement and are therefore being evaluated for widening, not full replacement. These images show the existing and proposed bridge typical sections that are being considered for these projects.
Interchanges
Interchange improvements are being considered at all interchanges within the project limits. Interchange improvements will be evaluated as necessary based on specific needs, issues, and existing conditions at each interchange. There are also two ongoing interchange improvement projects already being studied that are being coordinated with these I-10 widening projects: the new I-10 at Antioch Road interchange and the S.R. 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) interchange improvements project. On the map below, click on an interchange you are interested in seeing to view the current Build Alternative proposed for that interchange.
Concept Plans
The concept plans show the Build Alternative currently proposed for the corridor. The intent of these projects is to widen I-10 from four to six lanes from west of Avalon Boulevard to east of S.R. 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. On the map below, click on the study area related to you to zoom to plans with the detailed improvements shown.

Evaluation Matrix
As part of the PD&E process, a Build Alternative consisting of widening I-10 from four to six lanes with select interchange improvements has been developed for these projects. This proposed Build Alternative has been evaluated for potential impacts to the existing social, cultural, physical, and natural environment, as well as its satisfaction of the project’s Purpose and Need. These Evaluation Matrices summarize the potential benefits and impacts to widening I-10 from west of Avalon Boulevard to east of S.R. 85 (Ferdon Boulevard). As the proposed Build Alternative continues to be refined, impacts to existing social, cultural, physical, and natural resources will be avoided and minimized to the extent practicable.
